Derby Name meaning or story “Blitzkreig” translates to lightning war in German. You history buffs know the rest. Added The R in there for my name.
Number meaning My lucky number 111 was taken so I added a 7 at the end for my late grandfather’s birth month. He was my purple heart hero.
Why/when (year) you joined the FMDGI joined in 2008. Mike recruited me at an open skate when I was with my sister and mother. I guess it was fate because tryouts were the next day and I made it!
What do you do for a living? How long? I have worked in Healthcare 11+ years taking care of the elderly and disabled. I now work with the pregnant ladies!
Husband’s/boyfriend’s derby name if they have one & how many years together Richard Shafer-Little Ricky-Squirrel Nuts. A lovely kung fu ninja turned referee on our team. He now recieves verbal beatings instead of physical ones.
Any Inuries? When and where? Knee sprains in the beginning. A sprained wrist with a torn PCL last season to boot.
Favorite Game/Derby moment and why? My favorite moments are those awesome moments where the kids ask for your autograph. Being a role model for our future strong adults!
Any sort of stats/awards we can share from the games? I have had many MVP awards and I once scored 66% of the points in one game.
What do you love about derby? It gives me a purpose and reinforces why I skated down the slide and jumped off swing sets in my skates at the highest point in the air and skated down the bank of the creek as a kid. Haha.
How has derby changed/impacted you in a positive way I sleep less and find myself making friends with females. I was always that weird girl that hung out with the nerdy boys and played D & D on camping trips. I still love the nerdy boys- I love one very much and he encourages me to further reach out to girls which is super difficult for me.
Any tips for people that want to skate with us or ref or nso? Get insurance and NEVER GIVE UP. Nothing bad ever came from working hard.
