Fort Myers Derby Girls

Derby Name meaning or story? Wreck-it Rita – Inspired by the movie Wreck-it Ralph, which I love because of all the vintage video game references and cameos.  Also, a friend came up with it and it was the one my daughter loved the most.

How did you decide on your number? I’ve played sports my whole life as #12 – just seemed right to stick with it for this too.

How long have you been with FMDG? Just over a year.

What are some of your other hobbies? Weightlifting, outdoor skating, day drinking, watching the Golden Girls, staying in my pajamas all day, shopping with my daughter, binge watching WFTDA playoff games on their YouTube channel.

Favorite game or derby moment and why?
It’s hard to choose!  Maybe the away game in Key West this year (2017) when I had to step in as a Jammer due to a teammate getting injured (that part was NOT my favorite), but I really got to experience the Jammer role for a whole game, and realized I loved it.  Then the after party was epic and it really solidified my friendship off the track with several teammates.

How has derby changed/impacted you? Somehow Derby had this liberating affect one me.  I just really accepted who I was, what I was capable of, became comfortable with pushing my boundaries (both on and off the track), and letting go of what other’s thought about me.  It’s really helped me find my happy place.

What are your aspirations for this league and yourself? I have a lot of aspirations for the league.  Right now, as we’re going through a major transition year with skaters retiring, most of my energy is going towards recruitment and creating cohesion on the team.  As far as aspirations for myself, I really want to improve my skills as a jammer and be the best contribution to the team that I possibly can be!
