Why did you join derby? Mid-life crisis


Bio: Joined FMDG just before the end of their 1st season, when they use to let anyone walk on the team. Didn't tell family and friends that, of course. They thought I actually passed some try-out, ha! :) My first bout was during the Tampa tournament in 2008, scary. We played two bouts before being knocked out. The second bout was more memorable for me because we played Jacksonville, who wore all green. I went in as a blocker and all I remember seeing, because of my height deficiency, were giant green legs all around me. Nice introduction to derby! I'm a glutton for punishment. Long story short...after getting j-hooked by a comrade during practice in 2009, my poor sad knee filled up with fluid and has never,...ever,... been the same... Even longer story short...I had my second child, a beautiful bouncing baby boy in 2010 Painfully obvious, derby is something you either love or...not. 2011...I saw a void in our reffing staff and decided that this was where I could help the team best since my post baby body and poor sad knee were not up to par. I am very excited to say that I have learned more about the sport reffing than I ever could have playing and my body and knee are slowly returning to the glory that was once theirs...I'll be back. For the time being, I will continue to enjoy sending girls to the box. :)

Bio: I started at the very bottom but managed to sleep my way to the Top. Jonathan E taught me how to skate and some basic rules, the rest came from on the job training. I like to keep my bouts professional as well as my personal appearance. I like travel bouts but I don't actually like to travel with the team...only Cherry. I like practicing bouting but I don't actually like to practice bouting with the team...only Cherry. I like setting up the track but I don't actually like setting up the track with the volunteer's...only Cherry. I like discussing the rules but I don't actually like discussing the rules with the rest of the team...only Cherry. I like reffing bouts but I don't actually like reffing the bouts with other ref's...only Cherry. I like being head ref but I don't actually like being the 'only' Head Ref...so's Cherry.

Bio: Born in Circleville, Ohio but my parents were smart enough to get me out ASAP!! Grew up and went to school in the 305. Moved to West Coast in 2006 and wouldn't want to be anywhere else... sunshine all year. what else can you ask for!

Why did you join derby? I needed to vent, unleash my stressors, be invigorated...  besides I can't hip check my kids, but I CAN hit a bitch.  Plus, now I can call the shots.... tweet !! INSUBORDINATION!
