Fistmas in July
posted: July 20, 2008Ft. Myers is the most intriguing young team in all of Florida. Their upset win in overtime in Bradentucky in March is already an instant classic, even if Bradentucky dominated them in the rematch in April. In a battle of young teams, Ft. Myers pulled out a win against the Broward County Derby Girls in May at Rinko de Mayo, and had a wild little intraleague bout last month. Velvet Revolter has continued to develop into this team's triple threat with kim bong ill still off of skates. Crowd favorite Alexorcist impressed at Independence Decay during her turns as jammer. Breakneck Brie will be back as blocker/pivot, and she and Flyin Da Brie are a blocking force to be reckoned with. Keep an eye out for MotorGoddess... she's been fighting illness this week, but if she skates, she will be a MONSTER blocker. Believe me, I've been on the track, seen her bearing down towards me, and almost shit myself in fear of the hit. :) And Kannibal Kate is rapidly becoming my favorite jammer with FMDG, if not my favorite player period. She gets through the pack clean. A cannibalistic monster on the track, off the track she is laid back and unassuming. Kannibal Kate gets it... and that may not sound like much to the average reader, but I mean that in the best possible way towards her.
I don't recall these teams playing each other at Sunshine Skate in February. The experience edge would probably go to the Molly Rogers, having been around longer. The win over Bradentucky helped to show that they're still the number 3 league in the state behind only Tampa and Tallahassee. But the Molly Rogers are making one hell of a road trip to Ft. Myers, and breaking away from their usual Saturday schedule to play on Sunday.
Ft. Myers is a true wild card in league rankings. They've come a long way in such a short period of time. Their talent is already impressive. I'm a fan of so many of their players. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ft. Myers win this time around. However, assuming the Molly Rogers is bringing their A team, I would probably have to give the edge to Brevard County... and I'll try to save face with my Ft. Myers fans by truthfully predicting that it'll be a squeaker that'll come down to the wire and be better than most might give it credit for, going in. Predicted winners: Molly Rogers Rollergirls in a squeaker.

Molly Roger RollerGirls went down to fill a slot for the Ft Myers's Palm City Punishers 7/20. It was an intense bout with hard hits from the first whistle. Final score was 132-91, Molly Roger winning
